Our
Fundraisers are a very important part of the Support Dog
team.
With their help we have trained over 150
dogs since we began in 1992, with each dog costing
£10,000 to train and support throughout their working
life.
These dogs provide
many years of service for their owners, helping them to
live a more independent life and in many cases providing
help that humans cannot.
We currently aim to
train 24 dogs each year making an annual figure that
needs to be raised of £240,000.
Without
our fundraisers we would be unable to help all these
people. |

Becoming a Fundraiser |

|
Just a couple of hours of your
time can make such a difference to the amount of money we can
raise.
We always need willing helpers to attend the
supermarket collections and other events. Or if you are working
alone, placing collection tins around your area is an effective
simple way of raising funds and Support Dogs profile. |
Perhaps you have a garden to be proud of, then why
not have an open day, where for a small fee your friends and
neighbours can be inspired by your green fingers. If you are not the
outdoor type, hold a coffee morning. Other ideas if you are working
alone are sponsored events, approach your fitness centres, slimming
clubs or dog clubs, they may be happy to organise a sponsored event
to raise funds.
If you have other people/friends who can help
you, it is possible to hold collections at supermarkets and shopping
centres. Please contact our Training Centre in Sheffield and we will
be happy to send the letters making the initial approach on your
behalf.
If you own a dog of suitable temperament and
character, it may be possible for your dog to become a fund-raising
dog, simply contact one of our trainers on 0870 609 3476 to have your
dog assessed for its suitability.

Becoming a
Speaker |

We always need people who are willing to attend local
groups and talk about Support Dogs. This not only brings in much
needed funds, making more people aware of our work, but also brings
our service to the attention of potential clients.
|
If you
are in an area where Support Dogs is not well known, some work
advertising Support Dogs may be required in order to bring in
requests for talks. The Women's Institute is a very good source and
local churches and halls may allow you to place posters advertising
Support Dogs.
Sometimes our Sheffield Office receives request
for talks in which case, we pass them onto the nearest person to
organise.
In order that we are all giving out the correct
information all speakers need to attend a training session either at
our head office, or with one of our current fundraisers or speakers
if they live closer to you. We provide all speakers with slides and
a video detailing Support Dogs' work.
Being a speaker does
require some commitment from yourself, but this work is invaluable
to Support Dogs. |
